'Primordial Polarities'
20" x 30"
Gypsum plaster, Cape Cod Sand, found beach stones, driftwood frame
As I sit here caressing the water, sands and stones of Paines Creek beach, I feel the polarity around me, within me: I am a tiny grain of sand in a vast oceanic expanse, an ancient stone on an ephemeral landscape, the tide moving in and out. Everywhere I look, I see a reflection of my inner world in the outer. Just as the Earth consists of many different stones, lifeforms, and forces, I, too, contain an ecosystem of experiences, memories, and qualities. Often, I become fixated on one particular stone, one particular aspect of myself that takes my attention away from the greater whole and puts it on one side or the other. It's not until I meet that aspect with the love and care it longs for does my scope of awareness broaden and come back to center.
